Why didn’t you frost the sides?

Jennifer~
That cake looks delish! You can bake me a cake anytime 😀

Jennifer,
Are the sides of a red velvet cake iced as well? I seem to recall the only way you typically see the red is when you cut it. I’ve also seen some with what looks like red velvet crumbs sprinkled over the top as decoration.
Just wondering! Looks delish!

What is the deal with a red velvet cake? Are they more velvety? Or just dyed red? I’ve never tried one! Looks good!

It looks really good Jennifer!!!
I don’t think I could eat it though. The only cake I can eat is white cake with white frosting…everything else is to rich for me. 🙂

Jennifer,
You are falling into the same trap as me! I started watching Martha on a daily basis starting in September and starting listening to you and Alexis and reading the blog shortly thereafter. Due to the Stewarts’ influence, I have become a baking fiend! It all started just before Thanksgiving. I have baked a concord grape pie, shortbread cookies, numerous cakes, whipped up exotic frostings, and even bought a tart pan!

I’m with you Jacqueline! I made the 62nd Street Lemon Cake last night after reading about it here in the comments the other day – It was a big hit!
Now, I’ve decided I have an excuse to go out and buy a KitchenAid…
Red Velvet Cake is next on my list!

Red Velvet is one of my favorites!!! It was one of the tiers on my wedding cake. It’s so fun to make too. It’s funny/coincidental that you made this because I was planning to make this over the weekend. Apparently vinegar is the big secret ingredient. Thanks for sharing and NEVER let the negative posters make you stop posting this stuff. You and Alexis are fantastic!
