thx for all your suggestions… i just went in yesterday morning and plowed through it. i did donate toys to people who needed/wanted them. but i trashed a tremendous amount of stuff that was unfit to be played with by anyone anymore.
and the mold was cleaned from the carpet this morning.

Wow!! Great job!! I recognize the American Girl Horse! I have to do a similar (but on an extremely smaller scale) clean out of my daughters toys at my mom’s, so we can move some of the toys from here, over to there! Get the black bags (so she can’t see what I’m ditching!) Mwuwahhh (evil laugh!)
I wish I could get rid of all the carpeting in my house, and just have hardwood floors. My husband won’t budge. I have most of the downstairs hardwood, and it is so easy to keep clean.

Congrats! That hook “tonite, I’m cleaning out my closet” comes to mind. Of course, in the song the cleaning out is not just about a physical place. It never is. I’m beating around the bush. Here’s the point. When a person with a life long “love” of bad food and too much of it,eats sanely, she starts feeling anxiety that over-eating has dulled into a bearable numbness. Cleaning up life’s little and not so little messes is a healthy response to anxiety, mold, and other toxic conditions. A not so healthy alternative activity is picking up drinking to overcome sexual inhibitions. Are you kidding? Drinking with the intention of getting drunk to enhance sexual pleasure. It’s hard to believe that anyone who is over 30 and not a former child star would think this a sound plan of action.
Now your basement looks like an exercise room. I purge once a year and have a garage sale then I donate what doesn’t sell, that’s what us poor people do. 😉

John Adams, that’s the incredible hulk, not a Real Doll! BTW, checked out the Real Doll website, soooo creepy! The basement looks a lot better, did you hire help to clean out the crap??? I thought it would take you days or even weeks to get the job done.

You can’t just clean the carpet, the mold grows under the carept into the pad. You must replace the entire carpet, carpet pad and scrub the floor with a diluted bleach water mixture (1/4 cup bleach to 1 gal. water)
Whomever told you it was ok is wrong. Ask any biologist.
