hi everyone,
keith had me make TWO birthday cakes for him… and ONE of them (the chocolate one) was really delicious… i was shocked that i baked it! the vanilla cake was a little too sweet due to the frosting- i still suck at making frosting! but i do think i have learned baking techniques from alexis! although i am still desperate for help in the frosting department when it comes to making it look pretty…the double chocolate layer cake with ganache frosting was frosted fine- even though the picture looks like it has bubbles, once it hardened in the refrigerator they were all gone. working with the butter cream though aaaackkkk!!!!
oh- and the double chocolate layer cake with ganache frosting…guess how many ww points per slice (big slice)….15!
vanilla cake pre frosting…(probably better pre-frosting!)
vanilla butter cream.
and frosted…
double chocolate layer cake from epicurious.com
chopped chocolate…yum.
ganache- can you see the butter on the whisk!
finished double chocolate layer cake.
almost my entire family and keith’s entire family were at dinner at stanton social (so good!) and as you know i could barely talk which was humorous (i’m 80% healed from vocal chord injury so i have one more week of silence but for when i’m on air)..and hopefully i will have pictures soon from my uncle who took pictures THE WHOLE TIME! (can you say bad camera angles?!?!)

Wow Jennifer! Beautiful job on the Chocolate Cake! You are giving Alexis a run for her money!

I agree the frosting is not the easiest part. One thing that helps is to make more than you need so you can repair any of the damaged or missing areas.
Sorry you had that vocal chord problem. I’m glad it’s getting better though. Did they ever tell you what caused it in the first place? Maybe I missed you telling that.

the vanilla doesn’t look to bad ,, just need to practice with the piping bag,, and I don’t even bother making frosting anymore I’ll use a simple glaze, but then I am not a frosting lover it is way to sweat!!!

Jennifer those cakes look good…
Howcome you and Alexis do not work together on stuff like that?
I want Alexis and her MOMMY to
get a contract to make some FRENCH CREAMS
the old fashioned way..The Vermont Country Store has them but they are half the size of the real ones…
and do not taste as good.
Frech Creams are like those
Holloween candy corns…and Holloween pumpkins but are larger and have a flowery taste plus a coating of glazed sugar on them and are usually sold at Christmas..they are very rare and hard to get..none are as good as the old ones were..and I can’t find them anymore !!!
Alexis Help Jennifer!!!Help!!

Jennifer The cake photographs beautifully. Is there extra lard in it to make it look so glossy.Alexis once mentioned this as a trick to make photos prettier.
How is the voice over thing going?

Did you guys eat the cakes with family after your dinner at Stanton Social or before? What’s the proper etiquette for when to eat the cake when you are leaving the house to have dinner with a group of family and friends??? Hmmmm?? That one has always stummped me. I guess you’d have to just play it by ear (so to speak) as to who wants cake before and who wants to wait….but if you wait…then do you have EVERYONE caravan BACK to your home?? what to do…what to do???? : ) Any thoughts?
Tammy says
Jennifer do you use Vanilla in the frosting? If so, try using clear vanilla, I got mine at Michaels, it helps with the color.
I know if people want bright white they use all shortening for their icing. Yuck but the color works out.

I’m looking forward to seeing the family dinner photos!
