hi everyone!
last night i got home from the show and made these vanilla cupcake cones for my kids’ school…
ugh!
i made it all from scratch and used crisco (bleh!) in the frosting….made it whiter (did a classic cup of crisco to 7 cups of powdered sugar and half a cup of milk).
here are ingredients for vanilla cupcakes!
had to (ultimately) make FOUR batches (to make enough for school)!!
the cones are ready to be filled! (these are basic flat bottomed wafer cones)
filled cones.
out of oven.
tada!!!!
xoxo

My mom made these for me when I was a little girl, oh how I loved them.
I want to be 9 again!

Mmmmmmmmmm delicious

Hi Jennifer,
They look great, but why would you use vegan and organic products and still use Crisco??
cup cake says
cupcakes are nice but where are the pics you promised us? The Alexis Indian pics?
jenny hutt says
hi mm,
i wanted to make an icing without using butter because i didn’t have room to refrigerate the cupcakes over night…so i used crisco- it was too late to go buy organic margerine type stuff… i had crisco in my house already from a while ago…

Why 4 times? How come the first three batches didn’t turn out? margarine (sp.)

great job baking. they look go good.

They are sooo cute! I need to try these for my kids… they would LOVE them. Lucky you that you can bring these to school. We HAVE to bring baked goods from approved stores/bakery to ensure no allergy issues.

I never heard of cupcakes in ice cream cones. But that certainly is a good idea. I’d like to try one if you have an extra one to throw to CT. Great baking they look great. Amy

This is a very creative idea, the only questions I have are: How did taste with the cone and why the tin foil? I usually use tin foil to cover my mini-toast pizzas (finger food) to keep everything moist and rich.

Just an FYI: I’m a teacher and make these often so I purchased 2 plastic carriers for these cone cupcakes several years ago from an offer on the side of the Joy cones package. In addition to making the cupcake cones easy to store and transport, you can cook in the stainless baking tray so they don’t topple over in your oven. Handy product and makes a cute gift for a new mother.

Why do you insist on starting every single solitary blog with “Hi everyone!”???
Raquel says
That’s so great you can make homemade food for school. Here in California you can only bring in store bought which is not as fun as adorable fun cupcake cones! Schools have too many rules nowadays.
Kristin says
What did you use to keep the cones upright while filling and baking? They look yummy. I bet your daughter will be thrilled to pass these out. None of my kindergarten students have ever brought anything so cute!
sarajo says
I’m impressed! Your photos are getting better too. Food is hard to shoot – may I suggest using natural light whenever possible.
WI Girl says
Your photos and presentation are getting as good as those posted by your co-host. Nice!

Raquel, here in Minnesota we have the same rule, store boughten goods ONLY. That’s why We do not bother sending treats in.
Annoyed – Why do you not show your true name so we know who is being annoying?

you often say “of course/obviously i used organic ingredients”. just wondering your reasoning for it. i know its a growing trend, but just curious why you feel its so important. love your blogs, keep them coming! 🙂

Great job Jennifer! I made these every year for my girls to bring in for their birthday, until their school went psycho and only let them bring in fruit (packaged from the store) or let you read a book to the class. One trick I learned was that it was easier to make the cupcake the normal way but place the flat bottom cone on top upside down before you bake them. You don’t use as much batter filling up the cone. I also used chocolate or pink icing.

Earth Balance shortening makes fabulous frosting. Crisco is gross.

I love that idea.. I am going to try it. Thanks for sharing.

This is totally off topic, but when I opened your blog today there is an ad for “Asian Girls for Love & Marriage” on the right side. I can’t imagine that you okayed Google to post this ad. I can’t believe Google is okay with posting this ad!
