last night was really exciting/lovely/nerve wracking/ and super cool.
pictures will come eventually (and alexis’ cashew butterscotch bars were insanely good)
but this morning i am thinking about the people who lost loved ones in 911…and
hoping our country will figure out an APPROPRIATE way to avoid another disaster like that.

What’s “inappropriate” about what we are doing? There hasn’t been an attack since 9/11, so we must be doing something right. Let me guess; you’d prefer “Less guns, more hugs”, or some other nonsensical piece of suburban bumper-sticker pacifism.
If our safety were left to people like you, we’d get attacked every month.

Why are Martha’s pants always too short. It’s a look but it doesn’t work on her. I’m just sayin’…
Isnothingsacred? says
When did “Whatever” become a political talk show? Just mourn and honor those who lost their lives on September 11th and since, and keep the snide, political commentary to yourself.
Robert says
Glad you were excited by last night. It’s fun to do things like that, but like you, today is a sad day, exp for those of us that live downtown. It’s hard not to remember that day. Wish I had a cashew bar to help.
Robert says
ps – love the picture of you and Alexis in the egg chairs. You look very pretty.
jill (different one) says
this is truely a sad day for everyone. I remember exactly where i was and what i was doing on this day when the terrorist flew their planes into our buildings. i’m curious though jennifer, what do you feel is an appropriate way to prevent a disaster like that again?
Sharon in Middleburg, FL says
I agree, not by attacking a country who wasn’t involved and losing 4.5K+ of our soldiers!!!! Go Blue….and I don’t mean Michigan State!
Lorrie says
My husband worked at the Morgan Stanley/Dean Witter offices on the floor where the planes hit, thankfully one year prior to those events. But still too close for comfort. My brother is Marine who is going to Iraq. I am not a person who loves and embraces violence, BUT… We are not the only country that has fingers in all the pies, we are not the only country that has made appalling stupid foreign policy decisions IE. not funding reconstruction in Afghanistan after the Soviet withdraw, becoming dependent on oil (not exclusively a foreign policy decision, businesses & consumers share the blame), etc.
But WE WERE ATTACKED. A civilian targeted attack. And while occasionally the US forces have had civilian casualties, we HAVE NOT targeted an site that would have mass civilian casualties.
I believe (just an opinion, and I love & appreciate hearing yours, Jennifer, please don’t take this as a personal attack) that the wars, plural, ARE an appropriate response. I believe that the UN was not effective in it’s response after 9/11 and it certainly WAS NOT effective concerning Iraq. A sovereign nation has a responsibility to it’s citizens to respond with force to an attack. It also has a world responsibility to enforce the removal of mass murdering dictators, Slobodan Milosevic for example.
I disagree with Saudi Arabia’s policy on women, I disagree with our policy of friendship with the Saudi’s, I believe that the policy undermines our integrity, as does our policies with Sudan, Russia etc.
I wish that politics would allow for TOTAL integrity, but as with anything in life it is a balancing act that it almost impossible to do “cleanly”.
I pray for all the families that lost loved ones, I pray for all the families of our Armed Forces, I pray for the people of Afghanistan and Iraq and I most especially pray for the people of al qaeda, that hate us, I pray God will relieve the burden of hate from their hearts, that they find and empower leaders that will not impoverish them and indoctrinate hate but allow them to own property, hold stable jobs and provide food for themselves and their families.
On a separate note, Jennifer, you are constantly in my prayers. Every night, I remember you and your precious family. I pray each day is a little better for you. My heart breaks for you having to endure this trial and I hope soon that you are gifted some peace.
Warmly and respectfully,
Lorrie
Linda says
yes Jennifer..
unfortunately we will again be tested by evil when our new president is in
office.
You and the rest of us can only imagine what will happen in the future.
We know how bad this is not was . The landscape has forever changed as well as many lives not directly connected with any of them personally.
May they all rest in peace…those who died in that tragedy.
And to new XM listeners welcome aboard!

I didn’t hear this directly, but it was reported on CNN. Mayor Bloomberg read an Irish proverb this morning addressing the tragedy of 9/11:
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
Jill says
Getty Images is more interesting than gossip sites because you can catch all of the entertainment coverage from the day before but you only have to look at pictures. NO personal commentary.
Krissylea says
Sept 11 is a tough day. Today is my 9yr wedding anniversary. Kind of hard to share that day with such a tragedy. But on the other hand alot of people had happy occasions on Sept 11 before this happened. I guess my not enjoying and celebrating the happy times, we are letting the terrorist win. I don’t know
Julia says
Jennifer, I find it amazing that you and Alexis are Democrats. Of course, I guess you have enough money to be a Democrat. I am a business owner and for the life of me do not understand how a working American could be pro Democrat.
I think we have done the APPROPRIATE things needed to avoid another disaster. Friends of my parents lost their Son on that day and I find it sick to turn that day into something political. There are people that hate us because we support Israel, it all goes back to that. Our recognition of the State and of the people is why we are hated. How stupid is that??? It is not because George Bush was in office.
I love you girls, but the politics is getting old. I can’t wait until it is done.

So what’s not “appropriate” about the fantastic work our armed forces, intelligence community, and police forces have been doing? If it were up to weak-willed, sniveling Northeastern liberal cowards like you, September 11th would be only one of many attacks we’d have to memorialize.
To Krissylea says
I understand how tough it is; I share your pain because I got married on the top of the Trade Center, so it’s a painful time today, plus on our anniversary date.
Appropriate says
Seven years and no more attacks. I would say our reaction has been appropriate for solving the problem.

Although I do not agree with everything you wrote, I found it so refreshing and stimulating to read what you wrote because you were polite about making your argument – thank you! I really find it discouraging to read so many rude comments on various blogs. Of course these people are likely found all around the world, but it always makes me think that these people who leave snide and vicious personal attacks reflect poorly on their society. Thanks again.
Lorrie says

HAHAHAHA! LOL! Way to lighten the mood!
@Julia says
Julia, why are you amazed that Alexis and Jennifer are democrats? They’re both trust-fund babies who have never had to work a day in their lives. Its easy to advocate giving away your hard-earned money when you’ve never actually had to earn it. I bet they don’t overpay their taxes, though, and I’m sure both their families make liberal use of every tax shelter their accountants can dream up. Do as we tell you to do, not as we do. Its a political ideology that collapses under the weight of its own hypocrisy.
“Appropriate”? I’d say 7 years and no attacks since makes whatever we’ve been doing absolutely and unequivocally appropriate.
HowToAvoidATerroristAttack says
We HAVE figured out an appropriate way “to avoid another disaster like that”. Its called killing terrorists. Often. Wherever they may hide. And its working really, really well.
Glenn says
Lorrie, we were attacked… by someone else. And Julia, I have a bumper sticker on my truck that says “to poor to vote republican” as do a lot of my fellow union members. (hope your employees organize soon) And finialy BQYFC. You are trying to justify your retarded beliefs with made up dates. And somehow imply that your are tougher than others, you are wrong. Jenns beliefs happen to be the same as mine. And I sir, altho a liberal, am anthing but a northeast liberal coward. So keep your fucking mean spirited generalizations to yourself. Its about time the rest of the country had a entertaining show to listen to that slanted our direction.
To Glenn says
Better bumper sticker “Vote Republican, because we can’t all be on welfare”. Conservatives could survive without Liberals, but Liberals couldn’t survive without Conservatives because then there would be no one to pay for social programs.
Jennifer.. had to know you would start this with your APPROPRIATE comment.
Ali says
Yikes, Glenn! Don’t you see that a respectful response such as Lorrie’s is the right way to have a civilized debate? I applaud her eloquence and ability to make her point without resorting to gutter talk and name calling. I’m surprised that you feel “it’s about time the rest of the country had an entertaining show to listen to that slanted our direction” [sic]. Isn’t just about every show, with the exception of FoxNews and the Patriot channel, slanted in your direction?
Politics aside, Jennifer, that is one funky looking grasshopper!
@All says
Very well said, All. Glenn’s just bitter about the Union’s precipitously diminishing power in American industry and politics. “Hope your employees organize soon” – whatever you say, comrade Glenn; V.I. Lenin would be proud.
Get your priorities straight says
You criticize Palin for not being able to clearly express a position (even going so far to call her “stupid”) when you yourself can’t even articulate your dislike for her beyond a couple of stuttered sighs, personal attacks or crude insults? Its a clear indication that yours is a knee-jerk reaction based on an ideology that you’ve been raised to believe, not one developed through personal choice or critical, philosophical consideration . Now who was it that doesn’t sound intelligent?
As an aside, how can any Jew support the democratic party? There isn’t another mainstream political movement that has been more critical towards Israel, nor harbors more anti-Semites. Next time your dad has Haim Saban over for dinner, ask him which candidate he thinks would better secure the safety of Israel.
Steph In TN says
I agree with many of the comments- appprantly our country has figured out and approriate way to avoid another disaster, because we haven’t had further tragedies like that of 9-11-01.
I think if Obama gains office that will change- I hope I’m wrong- but I really fear for our country if he wins.
kpw says
Fear for the country if Obama *doesn’t* win.
And remember – Jesus was a community organizer; Pontius Pilate was a governor.
CN says
I really enjoy both of you…route for you ect.
However, “appropriate” irritated me…so we are different politically I guess. However, I struggled with fertility, mourned sick parents with C, renovated an apt and go to cool stuff. My point is..would you read what I had to write if I slanted it “my” way..
probably not. My neighbor never came home on 911 and he was getting married a few weeks later. I would see Dennis on Park walking up to 35th when I walked my chow Asbury. I changed my route…it hurt. I really fing miss him.
So we disagree politically but we agree on so much emotion in so many ways. I wish both of you had more respect for another opinion.
Steph in Tn says
kpw- if you are trying to compare Jesus Christ to Obama- then God helps us all!!!!!!!!!!!
