tomorrow ill be covering up! and NO i do not EVER wear a bathing suit.
although we mentioned passover during our first night here (last night), we’ve been purposely not dwelling on the holiday.
easier to ignore it without my mom. too sad to celebrate.
that said, turks and caicos is fun. i am a nervous wreck when the kids are in the ocean (i watch and worry) in fact, a lovely man (stranger) tried to soothe my nerves while i was at the edge of the water in my sundress getting wet all the while. keith was in the ocean with my kids (of course). we are with my sister, brother in law and my nieces and nephews and it is lovely here. trying to relax.
will have a drink tonight. no cars here. no driving. all good.
hope your week is going well.

OH NO YOU DIN’T… ouch! All I can tell you is moisturize like there’s no tomorrow during and after healing… If you can do a moisture mask on the area once you’ve healed, it would be a good idea to help keep the lines away (Kiehl’s hydrating mask is fantastic or plain yogurt). And, no, I don’t work for them. I used to be a skin specialist and a makeup artist in film and tv for 15 years. Last thing you want is sun damage on the chest area… or any area.
I hope you are not in pain. Regardless, sounds like you’re having a fab time on vacation… Turks and Caicos is fantastic!
dana in philly says
You poor thing!! Get some aloe gel on that sunburn asap! I used to be the same way about not wearing a bathing suit. I regret doing that. I look back on it now and realize that I missed out on some really fun times with my kids. Put on the damn bathing suit and jump in…you wont regret it. ( and don’t forget to reapply that sunscreen, often!)
sarah gaynor says
you remind me of me! I live in ft lauderdale and never wore a suit(for yrs).Unless a moo moo was on top. I realized that there are some gross and digusting sights to behold on the beach.I also realized that i could take off the moo moo and no one would scream or run in fright from this sight to behold i still hate wearing a suit…No one will remember you or your body…take it off sit at the waters edge and don’t give a shit…
Vinny says
Yikes! What brand sunscreen did you use? I used the TARGET knockoff of Neutrogena 2 weeks ago and burned on one arm? Weird… I want to go to Turks and Caicos and stay at Nikki Beach!!
I would be a wreck if I had kids and they were in the ocean also.. You are not alone or abnormal.
D'Aun says
I would take your sunburn to be where you are right now. You will be OK just as long as you don’t peel!!! Have a great time and have that drink!!!

I feel your pain Jennifer. I swear – I think we were separated at birth – so many similarities… Hope your burn feels better soon.
Sonya says
Make sure to take some advil to relieve the swelling. I too burn very easily. Yes and aloe vera would work perfectly to cool the burn.
I am sorry about your mom.
Cheryl says
Ouch!! noxema does take the sting out. Enjoy this time with your kids and family. YOU DESERVE IT>

Dana is right about the suit, just put it on Jennifer. Are you afraid you will end up on the cover of The National Enquirer?
nursekenny says
Relax Jen, Nothing will happen to the kids, Go shopping, have a few drinks, eat some good food and enjoy the sun.
rachel says
Jenn,
You need a stronger sun screen. Use at least a 50 and apply it every 2 hours. Also, you might want to sit under an umbrella. Trust me I have had many things removed from my face because I WAS a sun worshiper.
Brian0523 says
OMG Alexis is gonna give you hell for not wearing sunscreen on your face!!!!!!!!!!!
MarthaAndMe says
You need a hat! I too used to be afraid to wear a bathing suit. Get one with a skirt – it makes it all look much better. When you see gross old men walking by in speedos, you realize nothing you could show could be scarier! Sorry about the burn. I use SPF 60 at the beach and stay no longer than 2 hours at a time – or get under an umbrella if longer.

How great for your kids to get to travel. The only trips I ever took as a child were weekly grocery shopping trips to “the Big Bunny” in Stafford Springs CT.(sadly, the Big Bunny has closed) Have Fun!

And why is it you won’t were a swim suit? You are a beautiful young women. You wouldn’t want your kids to pick up size fear.If you don’t like the water thats one thing but it seems to me your fear for the kids in the water might not be so great if you got it the water also.Jennifer don’t be silly you would be gorgeous in a swim suit and you know it.Love your body you silly girl.
ballerinatoes says
Sorry about the burn…but on the up side, you look really hot with some sun on your face and your hair all beachy. Enjoy your vaca…don’t worry about the kids too much.
amyrabuf says
Jennifer what did you do to your self? Boy when you see Pat Wexler she’s not going to be pleased with your sunburn. I know the sun there is really strong and there’s never any cloudy days but you really know need to cover uo and not just with a light top. Good thing this happened at the end of the vacation. Take some tylenol to help ease the pain. I pitty you, Amy

Ouch! Didn’t you bring your Anthelios with you! Bad girl! Try to have some fun. The kids will be fine in the water. You should get in the water with them. Have a drink and chill!

As a fellow redhead, I can empathize with the awful sunburn. I got a sunscreen from my dermatologist last year that is the BEST one I have ever tried. Seriously – it changed my life. That sounds dramatic, but the sunscreen did not bother my sensitive skin; was not greasy; did not make me look even paler than I am (most high SPF sunscreens have zinc oxide); and I only have to apply it once in the morning and I am set for the day. I went to south Florida last year and was outdoors and in the sun all day and I didn’t get any color at all. Okay, this is starting to sound like an advertisement, but it really is a truly great product. It is a little pricey, but I think it is worth it. https://antheliosonline.com/

aren’t you a rosie fan? on her blog a long while back, she wrote how she was never photographed with her children because of how the pics came out (meaning her weight). she woke up one day and realized what she was missing out on. screw the weight. you have two beautiful children whose memory, should you go first, shouldn’t be as the mother who never went swimming in the ocean with them. do you realize what you are missing out on. no one is perfect, no one should cast stones, enjoy your time with your children. soon they won’t want you there anyway. my grandfather died during the christmas holidays and i remember, as a kid, that my mom didn’t want to put a tree up. she really didn’t but she did. we were small then, like your kids, and i remember years later asking her why she did it as she was so lost and lonely during that time (her parents lived in germany and we couldn’t afford to send her home, even when they were sick). she said that she wanted us to have a happy holiday and realize that yes, it sucks, but life goes on and we were children. we really didn’t understand the depth of her sadness, it wasn’t our fault. why punish us. please continue the traditions with them. your mom would have wanted it. and wear sun block. you are so fair, watch out for skin cancer.
emn says
You need to stop complaining about your body. You are beautiful–why don’t you see it? Take off the suit. Go in the water with your kids, you will NEVER see these people again, what do you have to loose? Your hubby think’s your beautiful and you surely don’t want to pass along your body issues to your kids. If they see a strong Mom like how you obviously viewed your Mom that’s what will shine through. Enough complaining on this blog–let’s stop feeling sorry for ourselves and start living life already!
–not trying to offend here, just trying to shock you alittle with some honest thoughts–

Go to Barneys and buy a hat!
And wear it at every beach/pool you go to this summer. You’re smarter than that Jennifer.

I feel so sorry for you..On Monday Alexis is going to give you soooooo much shit. I can’t say anything more than I’m sure she will, but seriously you have to be careful. Just get yourself a beautiful hat, put on your sunglasses, and enjoy your time with your family. Who cares what everyone else thinks.
Loquaz says
Girl, if you have even an ounce of longing to be in the water with your kids, get a bathing suit. NOW! Don’t regret missed moments with them (and don’t miss out on how much fun it is to play in the water — not to mention the exercise!). A friend of mine has a figure similar to yours and swears by Lands End suits. There are so many styles and options out there — great ones that are essentially a tank top and either shorts or a skirt. But stop, immediately, denying yourself all the world has to offer. (Next step is for you to stop hiding under all thoses layers and layers you wear… baby steps tho!) Jump in, the water is fine!
Pam says
emn well said! I have a picture of my
mother on the beach from one of our
summers when we were young. she has
her hand trying to cover her thigh and
I remember her saying she did not want
a picture taken. the picture is beautiful and when i look at it I
remember the happy times of childhood
and her swimming so beautifully in the
ocean. We waste a lot of time not joining in because we are not perfect!!
What the heck is perfect??

Jenn,
I am not a fan of wearing a bathing suit either. But last year I ordered a bathing suit from Lands End and it reveals nothing! It’s a two piece with a skirt for the bottom and a tank for the top. I feel very comfortable walking down the beach and noticed that most women my age wear them.
Carroll Crispo says
Honey, you got frizzled-fried. Wear a bathing suit, get in the water with your kids, celebrate the holidays (Bun would love you to) and stop worrying about being fat. LIVE/ Life is for living/ Hi, Amyrabuf!

Jen, you are so strikingly beautiful, makeup or not. Your sunburn photo makes me dream about holding you in my arms, little kisses on your forehead, then down to those expressive, fascinating lips…your thick red hair falling all around my face and head. Wow.

Dresden Disney-Dior says
Jenn, you’re unaware of how beautiful you are. It’s time for you to make a splash. At this VERY moment, on vacation, you’re making LIFE LASTING memories for your children. Don’t allow your body image to take away from that. Please “join in” the fun! Take part in the joy.
Jenn, I KNOW how painful this past year has been for you, but your children NEED and deserve a sense of normalcy. To ignore and play down the holiday, because it’s painful for you, is not fair to them. Please Jenn, start making great memories for them to hold onto. Take lots of photos, spend lots of time together. When you come home from vacation, maybe Rosie can help you start scrapping, that is if you aren’t scrapping already.

Jennifer: You got me interested in botox with your great photos from a few months back. Pray tell… how long is the healing time from the injections? Is there much puffiness and bruising? Will I have to hide myself indoors for a week? Please share, since I trust you to tell us the truth. Thanks.
NaughtyChimp says
Oh… and I’m a big woman, too. I have a daughter, so I force myself to get into a bathing suit and go swimming. Not just to keep her company, but so that she grows up absorbing the message that no woman should feel so bad about her body that she misses out on doing things. If she ends up skinny, then I hope she’ll have compassion and admiration for heavier women on the beach. And if she ends up heavy, then I hope she’ll feel as good about herself — or better! — and take part in life as fully as anyone else.
Please think about what message you are teaching your kids and their friends by never wearing a bathing suit.
Oh… and swimming is great exercise. So in feeling bad about your body, you’re limiting your chances to improve your body.

Calimommy says
Ouch. Since I swore off the sun years ago I’m now soooo much more susceptible to the accidental burn now. The worst is when you tip toe into the shower in the morning, radiating heat, only to realize you’ve burned your part so now even your scalp will begin to peel in a week or so. It’s a niiiiice look.

joann says
Man, you really did yourself in this time. You are a fair-skinned redhead. You KNOW you burn easily. Get a hat, get sunscreen. Good God. Meanwhile, a little hint: please stop with all your weight issues. You are going to give your kids eating disorders. Seriously, this is how it starts. You are never going to be as thin as Alexis as you have a totally different body type. You have a great body as it is RIGHT NOW. You are healthy and that’s all that matters.
Ms Elso says
Jennifer, don’t wear a swimsuit if you don’t want to. GOOD LORD…You’re not depriving your kids of ANY DAMN THING if you aren’t comfortable in a swimsuit and are trying to ENJOY your vaca instead of spending it “working on your feelings” and “creating memories.”
No offense to anyone but there is something utterly pathological these days about people thinking that something like a vacation should be about “creating memories” – as if it’s all about posing and behaving in a way that will look good in photos/facebook/memories… That mode of thinking can only lead to an extra layer of GUILT if – no, WHEN – your “created memories” are not picture perfect.
EFF that meta-living and ENJOY yourself the way you want to (including not wearing a swimsuit if you damn well DON’T want to – even if you probably DO look cute in it). The memories will take care of themselves.
Rob says
Jennifer, I think you are very hot and bet you would look amazing in a swimsuit. You are my type of woman. I saw you tonight on Whatever Martha and think you are beautiful. You had your bare feet kicked up on the table and you drove me nuts. I am a sucker for pretty feminine feet. Hope to see your show again soon.

OUCH!!! I am so sorry for your loss. It is always painful, but holidays are the most painful. Actually it is all painful. Glad you had a much needed vacation. As for the show, I love it and know you seem to like to keep it light, but you could help so many people/teens if you address depression/anxiety. If you want please look at http://www.wishinganddiscovering.blogspot.com to see why, as a mom myself it is a huge concern. I hope Alexis finds relief from her stress.. P.S APRIL FOOL’S JOKE FREAKED ME OUT. So glad your on the air.

Hi Jennifer. I remember when my grandmother died, my mom stopped all kinds of traditions that we had enjoyed before. It really made me mad. I was about 12 so I decided to be the one that made the handmade christmas cards, valentines, st patricks day cards, etc.. I also did a crappy job making christmas cookies, but I made them because my mom was too busy being sad. We got Christmas presents but she stopped inviting my friends to come by and make handmande ornaments. I couldn’t afford the materials so I couldn’t do that one. I made cut out snowflakes and taped them on the windows. I know you are sad, but remember that your kids are sad about your mom too and you wouldn’t want them to feel like they lost a grandmother and a mom. Maybe I am out of line, but that’s what happened in my house.
Love you and please forgive me if you don’t like what I wrote.
Not fat, not skinny.... says
Jennifer, put on a bathing suit!!! My body isn’t perfect, but I love being at the beach with my kids and they tell me how nice I look all the time. Gotta love those kids!
