week one into the summer of YES (that’s what my sister named it!) was a success.
i’ve never been the partying kind. in fact, i am the group naysayer usually… no thanks to a drink. no thanks to a party. no thanks to a dinner out. no thanks to blah blah blah.
well for the next 6 weeks…all YES!
parties, dinners, walks, drinks, snuggles etc.
all YES. i’d love to. sure!
lots of laughter, lots of time with friends, lots of romance with my husband.
and drinks.
and it feels REALLY good.
i am starting to reconnect with the girl i used to be before cancer rocked my world. and giving me (or is it myself?) the ok to play again and do what makes me smile.
i want the fun. i’ll find the fun. i’ll make the fun.
why don’t all of you try the summer of YES.
you’ll be amazed how fabulous you will feel.

Good Lord! What got into you? All depreseed and morose and almost exactly a year later you’re a “YES” girl. I’m more concerned than ever. Maybe the meds are working. And, now, let’s see all the freaked out comments aimed at me! Let it rip, guys! WHATEVER!
Nicole from CA says
Sounds great!!! YES!
Gigi says
Jen, this is great. It reminds me of “The Summer of George” from Seinfeld. Good for you. You grieved YOUR way and nobody faults you for it. Oddly enough, I started doing this a month or so ago, stopped being such a naysayer/hermit and it feels good. It’s good to shake up the routine a little, even an emotional routine! ENJOY.
jenny hutt says
for the record…NO MEDS.
Flora says
I am so with you on this one, Jenny..It’s so easy to forget how a few simple changes in life can really make a difference! Life can be hard… But it is certainly good at times…

You know – that’s a great approach to life. I think I’ve been in a world of NO for so long that YES is just so unimaginable. But good luck to all of you who can manage it.
Jenn Lover says
I would love to hear you say YES YES YEEESSSS!!!!!!!!
Ok…let me test that YES theory out.
Jenn..can I suck on your perfect feminine toes?
Jenn…can I pull your hair and make wild love to you?
Jenn..would you like to rendezvous and make our own fireworks?
I love ya babe!!!!!!!
barb says
jen, cancer and death are so difficult to work thought. losing your mom or anyone close to you will change a person. yes time helps and this is where you are at. you inspire me, because I am a no person too. and I have not even been affected with losing someone. i am so glad to see you smiling again and seeing through to some light. a friend once said that if you do stumble just make it part of your dance.
Cindy says
Sounds good to me . . . YES! 🙂
marlee says
Good for you! Now you’ve inspired me to also “reconnect with the girl I used to be” after a very rough year. Cheers!

I just love that phrase from BARB who said “make the stumble a part of your dance.” I think we all need to think about this. Who ever said life was going to easy and without pain and suffering? So we take or pain and suffering and make it part of our dance. That is wonderful!
Laura says
Jennifer, I think your mom would smile to read your post – I bet she would be so happy you decided to get fun back into your life – that’s all moms ever want anyway – for their kids to be happy!
Bentley says
Jen–U didn’t say ‘yes’ to my twitter request! wtf? lol–c’mon, it’s the summer of yes!
Michael from Cleveland says
Hell yeah Jennifer, you go for it, live it up and enjoy!! Take advantage of things while you can and do things you usually don’t do.

I’m happy for you that you are pulling out of it. Hey Jenn, someone asked me, did you ever take the bar exam? I am not sure I spelled it correctly.
amyrabuf says
I am really happy for you that you are feeling so much better. It’s great you are spending some happy “Yes” time with your husband. I sometimes get into that “No” to everything, dinner, movies, the boat and all of it, and believe it or not shopping (omg). I sincerely hope that you will continue your summer to be full of “Yes” days. Amy

This is my summer of “No, i won’t be walked on anymore.” and “No, I won’t be a pushover.” So, would that be a yes to empowerment? (gah, hate that word…)
I think yes is good so long as it is yes to you. Yes to everyone everything everytime won’t work for me. I think I mostly only say no to me.
Big Pete says
I wish all girls would say yes…:)
Bob says
You need to watch watch “YES MAN” with Jim Carrey. A cationary tale of “yes”….
Ann says
Jennifer – good for you. I know what you are going thru. My dad died on 7/3/05 of Lukemia. He was diagnosed on 5/26/05 and died 7/3/05 – it just SUCKS!!! I didn’t do anything for a year, I just hurt so bad. I finally said my dad would be so pissed at me for not living my life so I forced myself to do things. His 4 year anniversary just passed and it’s not any easier, I still miss him very much. Your mom would want you to live your life, live for her. She’ll always be with you, so when you are having fun think of her watching you and loving you.
Jeannine says
Jennifer, that sounds like a wonderful idea!
Marlene says
Well Jenn, looks like your coming out of the fog… good for you and congratulations.
Gabrielle says
I love this idea -I’m saying yes to everything this summer too, but I’m exhausted from all the activities.
