You’ve got to give me a full review on the Kindle. Do you miss holding an actual book? Is it easy on the eyes? Ahhh I need to feel reassured that it’s a good product, before I make such a purchase.

Loved “The Help”! The story stayed with me long after I finished it. Always a good sign.
Suggestions for you:
“Sarah’s Key”
“The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society”
“Sammy’s Hill”
“Sammy’s House” (both by Kristin Gore (Al’s daughter)
Enjoy! All are really good reads…and read very quickly. Surely they are on Kindle.
all the best,
Kelly

Sorry about that…Just read your next entry where you finished “Sarah’s Key”…only after recommending it to you. Would say that while it’s depressing it was really well done.

I think Kindles are so cool, but I love real books. I’m with Sarah above. Is it like reading a lot on your laptop?
JRT says
Too much reading between you and Alexis……….What are you both in competition? I get that Alexis reads so much because she doesnt have kids, but you……..What’s up with that?? What do you lock yourself in a closet or something to get the quiet time??

who does all your chores? your hired help.!!!! JENN. while you read?

I think that it’s great that you read alot. Those other bloggers are just jealous of you. Keep reading it keeps you mind busy and we can forget our crazy busy lives for a moment.
Ali says
I can’t imagine why anyone would wonder at so much reading–it’s one of the first things to go when you’re raising kids. What better way to indulge yourself on vacay than a kindleiful of unread books? I got mine in February and love it. I’ve been known to prop it up on my bathroom sink to read while I’m drying my hair. Only problem, it needs an Itty Bitty Nite Lite if you’re reading in the dark.
JRT says
I watched a bit of the US open over the weekend and thought about you after remembering seeing some of the cutest footage on youtube of you as a teen covering the tournements. I guess you are still ga ga for it all.
Good for you that you are taking the time to escape with a book or twelve when you take the time. The Kindle must be worth it , and at least you are getting your money’s worth. Yes, I guess Im jealous, and we all know that jealousy is no way to go through life…

Did you like “The Help?” I have a long trip to the Pacific NW starting this weekend and was going to read one of the Twilight books but an interested in The Help.
Ms Elso says
The “digital ink” technology of the Kindle and other e-readers is not the same as reading from a computer screen. It is similar to reading words printed on a paper page and you rely on traditional sources of light (they aren’t backlit like a computer screen). True, you might give up some tactile satisfaction with the readers, but another advantage of the e-books is that they frequently cost less. Some day when they can transmit the words directly into the visual centers in our brains we’ll say we miss the feel of our reader buttons.

I read “The Help” in 3 days. Wonderful book. Because of the awful things that happened in the deep south between white and black, it almost feels like a suspense novel. Heartwarming, funny, scary, redemptive–a must read.

Any baking during the vacation?

I read the first and second of the Twilight books. Didn’t care for them though I am older but I know that the younger teens just love them. Loved Glass Castle, Eat Pray, Love. Just my opinion.

I want a Kindle for Christmas. I also saw a Sony Digital Reader the other day and was wondering if you could tell me if you researched any other device? Also, which version of the Kindle do you have – gen 1 or 2? I really love to read, but rarely get time to go the bookstore and browse. Then, when I get a new book, I have to read it nonstop (I get really engrossed in it) and my kids and hubby think I’m nuts. I’m hopin the Kindle will help me read more and pay a bit less for the hardback books that I have no room to store. Thanks, Jennifer!
Oh, you and Alexis should put a reading list on the webpage so it’s easier for us to find your recommendations.
Can’t wait to hear the show tonight – missed your live antics while you were on vacay.

My daughter got a Kindle for her BD, she loves it, reads alot now, for her “me time”. She talked me into getting her dad one for Father’s Day, now I am hoping I get one for Christmas, I have Kindle envy. Whatever gets you reading, I am wondering though, do you have the first/second Kindle of the newer one, the one that is the size of a magazine, I am wondering if there is a significant amount of difference when reading a newspaper or magazine.

Hey Jennifer,
I really enjoy your show (& especially you). I found your show a couple months ago while channel surfing my XM radio at work. I’m not even gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I even get a kick out of Alexis (sometimes), but I listen to the show because of you.
Keep up the great work and thanks for giving me something to fun listen to at work.
Ignore the haters,
Steve in San Diego

love my kindle. and appreciate the books the both of you recommend. with a kindle 2 i can download a free sample and see if i like it and then purchase. BUT since i am on a fixed income i can take kindle to library and know exactly what books and authors i want to read. i still enjoy a regular book but with kindle so many options and many free or buy one get one free options. keep sharing. and anyone can find moments to read…love you both.

I have the Sony Reader and like it. They come in a few nice colors, with a leather case, and are smaller. They operate similarly to iPods in that you download material directly from the online store to your connected reader. I hear Sony is coming out with models around Xmas that will have the direct downloading capabilities Kindle already has.

jen, read WAITER RANT. If anyone ever worked in a restaurant, you will laugh out loud. For those who only have eaten at restaurants – you will treat the waitstaff differently after reading. Wonderful book, great writer, great story. Highly recommend.
rachel says
so when you are done reading a book on you kindle what do you do with that. Do you have a save file on the kindle or do you erase it?
Eric says
You only read because Alexis reads.
Eric says
I hope you know I’m kidding.
Mr. Elso (not really!) says
I have the Sony Reader, also. Love it! Love it! Love it! Technology changes so rapidly that I feel almost like it’s out-of-date. I wish I had the KINDLE, but, hey, the holidays are just around the corner!! Love you, girls! Mr. Elso (not really, though!)

Our book club read The Help and loved it. My daughter who is in high school is reading it for her English class. Provokes a lot of discussion.

Jen, I’m so happy for you that you had a great vacation with your husband, family and friends. And I bet it must be nice for your children to go away to camp. It’s a kids thing to do, instead of having to be entertained at home with the TV or the pool. Now it’s back to school and work, we’ll for some of us that is, not me, but my point being, I’m happy you are feeling so much better. Amy
