“Lies Will Take You Somewhere” by Sheila Schwartz. It’s awesome. She was Dan Chaon’s wife. It’s an amazing book. Please read it.

Jen says
You should definitely read the other 3 Jen Lancaster books. They are all great and funny.
Susan says
If you loved Jen Lancaster, then go get At Least in the City Someone Would Hear Me Scream by Wade Rouse. Also good is Confessions of a Counterfeit Farm Girl.
Why says
Why are you supposed to have liked The Hour I First Believed? Did someone tell you that you should like it? It’s a book! Just seems like a strange comment. In any event, love the show and Ms. Elso’s comments!
Tracy says
hi jennifer, do you have the smaller kindle or the big one? i just got the smaller one and i’m downloading samples of the jen lancaster books.
Shelly says
Jen Lancaster’s blog is funny too. jennsylvania.com. New book to be titled “My Fair Lazy”.
I’m buying snuggies for my 2 dogs this year & after seeing your leopard one, seriously considering one for myself. I’ll give my hubby the same come hither look you gave Keithy.
Leslie in Seattle says
I’m currently reading “The Forgotten Garden” – it’s a very good read!

Jillian Michaels, “Master Your Metabolism.” Very easy to read but most imporantly it gave me more motivation to exercise, exercise and exercise, so that one day I will have Maddonna’s arms or something like them.Amy

Wondering if Ms Elso is as big a presence on your show as she is on your blog????
Also, would be curious to know what Ms Elso’s literary recommendations/tastes are.
jen says
PLEASE, please have Jen Lancaster on your show!!! PLEASE!
Misty says
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It was written for young adults, but it’s a good, quick read.
Michael NY says
Jennifer, I have a hard time not finishing books and I actually stopped reading “the hour…” about halfway through. It was difficult to accept that an author normally so brilliant was just mediocre on what should be a very compelling subject. If you want books that really take your mind someplace else, then any Pat Conroy novel is my recommendation.
Emmy says
Please read “Zeitoun” and try to have the guy in the book on your show. True story about a dad who stayed behind after Katrina and helped rescue people – until the government wrongly accused him of being a terrorist – and imprisoned him without his wife’s knowledge. OMG, it will infuriate you. Outstanding book that you will tear thru in 2 days.
Ms. Elso says
“Wow,” I do have more to do all day than comment on this blog – I comment on other blogs, too. And give up suggesting there will be a mass exodus from this blog because fans (as opposed to nasty snipers) find scrolling past another fan’s comments just too painful to endure. Jennifer ain’t stupid. I couldn’t make out the rest of your babble but I hope you feel better. Lubs ya lots.
Person, how would I know? Jennifer allows all kinds of comments about fans, foes, and herself so I suppose it’s in keeping with that policy that she allows nasty comments about you. I hope she censors her critics’ comments now and then, because that would be funny.
Lori – yeah, the speculation about thesauruses is perplexing since I’m certain no one could find a single word in any of my comments that anyone with a sixth-grade level vocabulary wouldn’t know or use. So you must be onto something 🙂
Red! It’s true my IQ is 60, only twice as high as yours, but you shouldn’t criticize me for that. And I would be unbearably lonely if it weren’t for the attention you offer me here between your shifts at Radio Shack (sorry…’The Shack’).
Andrea says
Wow, Ms. E hearing voices???
Starting A Confederacy of Dunces this weekend, time permitting. I’m not one to force myself to finish a book if it’s tough to get through. Hoping this won’t be the case on this one. Think I’ll try Such A Pretty Fat in a few weeks while on vacation. Thanks for the recommendation.
@Ms. Elso says
Holy crap what are you babbling about? Maybe a trip to the therapist is in order instead of secluding yourself to your trailer house in front of the computer all day. Amen 🙂
My Goodness says
Sounds like someone is having a breakdown….it seems she doesn’t have much self control, despite her high IQ. So sad.
Rachel says
I know what you mean when you say that “your suppose to like a certain book.” I feel that way about Olive Kitterage. I read rave reviews on this site and I personally can’t see what all the hipe was about. It was ok but I didn’t love it like “I’m suppose to.
Caelum Quirk says
I must say, Jennifer, you need to comment on the “Ms. Elso” issues. She’s becoming more of a prime player than is expected. Seems like she’s taking a lot of real estate on these blogs and the subsequent rants for and against her. Perhaps make it part of the show run-down? I wonder if she calls and identifies herself as “Ms. Elso”?
Ms. L says
Agree on the Wally Lamb book, hated it!
Mary says
Screen, screen, screen, screen.
@Ms. Psycho says
What are you talking about? You’re cracking up right before our very eyes.
WTF says
Ms Elso is either a sad insecure person that needs lots of attention, or she is someone that knows Jen and Alexis very well and is just trying to better the blog, either way, it’s not worthy of being on the radio show for craps sake. Stupid!!
Gretchen says
Someone is a little unbalanced. Just calm down, after all, you brought it all on yourself with your constant comments and bickering, it’s not rocket science. Take care Ms. E
Lorraine@Caelum says
good grief, Ms. Elso seems to like pushing yoru buttons so stop giving him/her a reason if it bothers you. I don’t think Jennifer cares and neither do the rest of us.
Elso is a plant says
Clearly Elso is someone who works at Sirius. Didn’t Ronny B say that he spoke to her before coming on the show (where she threatened his life or something)? Its probably her job to defend these two. If it isn’t, she seriously needs to find something to occupy her time.
loquaz says
I didn’t like The Hour I First Believe much either (completely skipped the diary/historical passages). His first two novels were lovely, however. Take a look at Alice Hoffman — her books are delightfully magical and tender. And don’t forget Barbara Kingsolver!
Ms. Elso says
I’ll continue to respond to posts involving me, Multiple Alias (you’re crazier than Balloon Dad), so accept that instead of begging for screening. And you shouldn’t use “trailers house” as an insult, since many nice, decent people live in trailers and cannot afford more, But that’s par for the course for people with your level of ignorance and dysfunction. Speaking of which…Nobody obsesses over my posts except you – so nobody wants Jennifer to “comment” on blog comments on a radio show. Although a rich source of drama for you – believe it or not, a comments section isn’t nearly as compelling or consequential in real life as it is in your head. “Prime player” in a comments section. Really? I mean…really? lol
Jack says
Jen – What is good / bad about kindle DX? I am thinking about getting one. Love you!!
raquel says
have you read the Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood books? they’re fun and quick reads!
Lisa says
thank god- someone else agrees that ‘the hour i first believed’ was just a badly written book. I LOVED wally lamb’s other 2 books very much but I could not get thru this one.
you rock jennifer.
Ms. Elso says
I have no affiliation with Sirius. I love the Whatever radio and TV shows. I like posting on comment/message boards. And unprovoked, often highly personal and cruel attacks intended to undermine the morale of decent public people warrant reciprocation in kind. The gratuitous spite and cowardice behind them reveals a perverse mindset identical to that of animal torturers and even serial killers, and the freaks who possess it are utterly worthless (at best) to the planet. 🙂
melanie says
Girl you need to step up the quality of your blogs, they have been lame and uninteresting as of late.
@Elso says
“Animal torturers and serial killers”? LOL! You really are nuts. Step away from the keyboard and take a breath – you’re clearly way too invested in this blog.
Andrea says
Jennifer, loved your blog and the related comment section. Unfortnately, the comment section has been hijacked/ruined. See above. I’ll continue to read the blog section but will never read or participate in the comment section again. Pretty sad. Mission accomplished MS A-hole.
holly says
Read “I Know This Much is True” and “She’s Come Undone” by Wally Lamb. It has been years since I read those books and I still think about those characters. “A Prayer for Owen Meany”, John Irving, is great.
Sammy says
,do you just like to blog on face book?
suzanne says
OMG Jennifer,
I love you guys on the radio and whatever martha but your shoes tonight look nuts! Come on!
