took a break from reading- think i have just been consumed by other things…or busy or wanting to numb out or whatever! but when i pick up a book/my kindle (like i did today while waiting for my car’s brake light bulb to be replaced) i feel so calm.
today i am reading "model home" which alexis recommended. IT IS SO GOOD!
next up after that i think will be "the book thief".

Oh, I just finished “Model Home” as well. Great book – love the way the characters swirl out of control. Keep up the book recos. I check them *all* out. Think I’ll reserve “The Book Thief” RIGHT NOW! Thanks.

I, too, adore my Kindle for such idle waiting times as doctor appointments and car repairs.
Alexis would hate this, but Carrie’s Diaries (SITC Carrie Bradshaw) is pure, mindless, easy reading, good fun. Will remind you of your high school years no doubt. With the movie coming out next week, it got me in the right mindset.
I also randomly fell upon Speed Dating which is another mindless, easy reading love story of 30 somethings.
I have 5 pages of books on my Kindle and flip between many different types, many of the serious ones Alexis recommends such as Eating Animals. These are just 2 that I recently completed and thought you may enjoy when you want fluff reading.

If I could make a book suggestion, I am currently listening to A Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer. It is very good!

The Book Thief looks good, I may pick it up myself. I don’t know if you take recommendations but I am currently reading The Book of Negroes(https://www.amazon.ca/Book-Negroes-Lawrence-Hill/dp/1554681561/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273864334&sr=1-1) and it’s fantastic. Sort of like Roots but not really.

I am reading The Imperfectionists on my Kindle (read so much faster when using it) and also reading Solar. Really liked The Irresistible Henry House. Appreciate all the suggestions that are posted.

Jenn, I am not a reader either, but also want to be. I love how you said it made you feel calm. Do you think it will work for me?

How do you like your kindle? I am very tempted to get one. Then they come out with the bigger screen which would be better to read from but then bigger to carry. decisions… decisions… Which one do you have?

Model Home is really good. Loved the characters and how they developed in the novel. Hope you and Alexis continue to recommend books.

Hi there. The books that make me laugh out loud every time I read them are “Atleast in the City Someone Would Hear Me Scream” by Wade Rouse and “It Takes a Village Idiot” by Jim Mullen. Both books about men who were “forced” by their spouses to move from the city to the country. Absolutely hilarious and very true. And for all of us Baby Boomers “A Girl Named Zippy” by Haven Kimmel. This is about growing up in rural America in the early 60’s. ENJOY!

Despite my love of funny books, I just finished reading “The Lotus Eaters” by Tatjana Soli about being a female journalist in Vietnam during the war. Very haunting. Next up is “Matterhorn” by Karl Marlantes. Another Vietnam book, this one the author took 30 years to write after his stint in Vietnam. I am sure it will haunt me also. Having not paid attention to anything historical in school (or anything at all now that I think about it since I was too busy wondering why a teacher shaved off her eyebrows only to draw them on), I now like to read about history. Again, enjoy!

I think we have the same car..the BMW service lounges are the best. Here in Texas the cafe is stocked with free goodies. I read my Kindle while I wait for them to wash and detail my car for free. It’s the best! Ask yours if they have that service too.

Jennifer,
You will LOVE LOVE “The Book Thief”. It is a beautiful and powerful story. I just watched the PBS production of the Diary of Anne Frank last night, which has inspired me to go back and re-read “The Book Thief”. Have a box of tissues ready! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The Book Thief is probably the best books I’ve ever read in my life. You will absolutely bawl. It is so incredibly moving. And you’ll read in in a day, I promise. You won’t be able to put it down. If I ever have a daughter, I’ll want to name her Liesel. ENJOY IT.
