Hi- i absolutely love your radio show. My sister and i were listening to it yesterday on our car ride home from south carolina back to NYC. our father and mother retired a few years ago and moved there full time. We go down for a week each summer to spend time golfing with the whole family.
This trip however was very different. my father got diagnosed with colon and lung cancer 8 months ago. It was a very stressful week, as i saw my father, who i had not seen in a few months, basically dying rom the cancer that has taken everything from his life that he loves. my mother an father are true soulmates (if you believe in that !) for as far back as i can remember he was an avid golfer with a 3 handicap and now from all of the treatments, he can barely swing a club. I am bringing this up because a my sister and i were listening to your show we were laughing at how funny you are and i thought to myself “she must never have been through anything like what i am going through right now”. I am sorry for thinking this, it is just sometimes easier to feel bad or yourself than deal with whatever reality you are dealing with at the time. When we got home i went on your website and read the blog about your mothers death. i dont feel necessarily comforted that you experienced such a heavy loss in your life, but i do feel like one day i will be back to my usual self and i feel like i will regain the strength i once had and be able to see that there can be laughter in spite of tears. Thank you so much for sharing

meghan, thank you for your comment… i PROMISE you…you will feel like yourself again- though your “self” will be different. you will laugh and you will cry. sick parents/dead parents.. ugh. i feel for you because, yes, i have been there. and there is always a struggle. and a sadness. but that sadness isn’t usually the first layer anymore. and for that i am grateful. i believe strongly in laughing through everything. even the horrible. glad you have a sister too… my sister and my brother are tremendous support.
it does get easier down the road…but you still have much ahead of you. savor this time. and keep thinking positively. you can email me anytime at radiojenny@gmail.com– i have become an expert (sadly!) in this sort of thing… xo.

Do you get hungry on a day like that? I also eat around 1100 cals a day, but it is all lean protein and veggies. If I go anywhere near sugar (or processed carbs of any type), I turn into an eating machine.
Today:
Breakfast: eggbeater omelette with lowfat cheese, lowfat latte (250 cals)
Lunch: 97% lean hebrew national bunless hot dogs (40 cals each!), 1 grilled red bell pepper. 1/2 cup blueberries (300 cals)
Snack: lowfat string cheese x 2 (140 cals)
Dinner: grilled marinated chicken breast, corn on the cob with tiny bit of olive oil and salt (350 cals)
Snack 2: 1/2 cup blueberries (80 cal)
So 1120ish I think
